I would like to know if anyone is interested in the postal history of Darjeeling district.  This is a much less researched area than either Nepal or Tibet, but borders both, and offers considerable scope for research. Maybe members could cooperate in writing initial articles to disseminate what is known to date, and over time a good body of knowledge can be built up.

Nicholas,

to be honest, i as not aware that Darjeeling district has it's own Postal History Area. For me it was part of India (and famous for his delicious tea). Maybe you can show here some examples of Darjeeling Postal History.

Most of the post from the British PO's in Tibet passed through Darjeeling area - in particular through Kalimpong - and many have transit marks.  Some of the later cancellations from Pharijong show that this was a Branch Office of Darjeeling - I don't know the administrative history behind this.  I will try to upload a few examples of Darjeeling postal history covers - perhaps emphasising the Tibetan connection - although other themes can be concentrated on e.g. - Army, Tea Gardens, Railway, Schools, etc.
