At the Gärtner Auction September 2011 I noted following 2 lots.

Lot 2010:
1904, 1 A. blue (deeply inked), imperforate, local paper, setting 15, a block of four on reverse of complete telegram, scarce thus. (M), Estimate Euro 80.—

Lot 2015:
1917/18, 4 A. dark bluish green (deeply inked), a corner margin block of four on reverse of complete telegram, scarce thus (M). Estimate Euro 120.—

For me the blocks of 4 do not make any sense, also what makes me suspicious, the postmark doe not tie the stamps on the paper.

What is your opinion?

The 1 Anna-block is telegraphically cancelled Birganj (Hellrigl-No. T3). On the telegram is a handwritten date: 011/9/31 This is about Jan. 14, 1955 AD.

The 4 Anna-block is also telegraphically cancelled Birganj (Hellrigl-No. T3).

May be they are philatelic maculatures of the 50s?

Johannes

I would not even call it maculatures, but enhancements made to fool inexperienced buyers. It is just surprising why reputed auction houses are offering such items.

I guess they will not sell also in that auction. It is a disappointing behaviour from the auction house.

Rainer, I agree with you. I think they do not know what they are offering.
That happens sometimes…Thumbs Down
